Therapeutic Biography

Dr. Danielle Busby is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and Associate Professor in a Department

of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at a large academic medical center. At Simply Mindful

Counseling, she serves as a Clinical Supervisor, providing consultation, mentorship, and clinical

supervision to therapists to support high-quality, evidence-based mental health care, and is not

currently seeing patients.

Dr. Busby is passionate about reducing barriers to mental health care for underserved

communities and bridging the gap between research and real-world clinical practice. Her work

focuses on youth suicide prevention, child trauma, and understanding barriers to mental health

service use, particularly among Black youth. She has contributed to research on child trauma,

racial discrimination among Black youth, and the psychological effects of neighborhood

stressors such as community violence.

She is the Co-Founder and Vice President of Professional Relations of Black Mental Wellness

www.blackmentalwellness.com, an organization dedicated to increasing access to evidence-

based mental health information and resources from a Black perspective, highlighting the

diversity of mental health professionals, and reducing stigma within the Black community. Dr.

Busby is passionate about culturally responsive care and supporting the next generation of

mental health professionals.

Originally from Detroit, Michigan, Dr. Busby is proud of her roots and enjoys uplifting all things

that positively support the city. Outside of her professional work, she is a proud member of Delta

Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., enjoys yoga, college football Saturdays (Go Blue!), and traveling

with close family and friends.
